Custom Fan Shroud and Horizontal Fan Modification

The horizontal fan cooling system shown is what I have
been using successfully on my race engines since 1998.
Originally developed by Jay Putnam in 1996 using Corvair parts.
At this point I am satisfied that it is the best cooling system
for a racing 914-4.  It still needs some minor tweaking
and parts manufacturing development.
Anticipated availability is summer 2009.

The fan is a Corvair unit, cut down to fit on the T4 case
with a custom mount
The shroud is fiberglass,
with stock lower tin pieces attached.

The idler pulleys are mounted on a custom
aluminum
bracket which attaches to
the old fan shroud mounting studs.
The mounting bracket also replaces
the stock engine crossmember brackets,
providing room for a dry sump pump.

The breather tower is machined down
and an aluminum cover plate bolted on.

This cooling system currently has no provision for an alternator so it is not suitable for street use.
